Shalom offers so much! Opportunities to play sport; social and cultural activities to choose from; and really great academic support from tutors! The low ratio of residents to tutors is something you just don’t get everywhere. The residents’ society, RESSOC, is really active and they try to cater for everyone.

Social and Cultural Activities


Shalom College prides itself on its active social  life with a fun packed O Week and regular in house and off campus activities arranged by tutors and the college’s resident society, RESSOC.

Some past events include:

  • Annual formal ball
  • Annual formal Harbour cruise
  • Wine and cheese cocktail party
  • Fish and chips on Coogee Beach
  • Jet boating
  • Paintball
  • Cafe outings
  • Trip to Hunter Valley wine region
  • Trip to Blue Mountains

Some regular events include:

  • Weekly common room events (Shalom Idol, trivia nite, and various competitions)
  • Weekly snack nights
  • Monthly birthday cake nights

College residents are encouraged to participate in UNSW clubs and social activities arranged by groups such as ARC, the UNSW student organisation. Furthermore, college residents recieve discounts and perks around campus.


Shalom College seeks to provide an enriched cultural experience for all residents through exposure to a diverse range of events in-house and around Sydney. The college helps make Sydney's vibrant culture easily accessible to residents by discounting ticket prices!

Some recent excursions organized by RESSOC include:

  • Trip to the state theatre to see a show
  • Trip to the opera house to see a comedian
  • Trip to the opera house to see the Australian ballet

In addition, each semester Shalom College hosts 2 formal dinners with invited guest speakers who offer our residents access to a range of views and ideas.

  • Making a Difference: My Contribution by current and past Shalom College residents committed to Social Justice
  • Genocide by Holocaust survivor Lotte Weiss and by Armenian politician Gladys Berejiklian.
