1. We are the most modern of the colleges at UNSW and have facilities that do not exist in other colleges.

2. We value the academic success of our residents. Our residents perform consistently well at university. Learning and leadership development are key components of our culture.

3. We are not a religious college. Shalom is non-denominational and is committed to celebrating multi-culturalism and diversity.

4. Our resident body comprises a diverse mix of Australian and international students.

5. With 130 residents, we are an ideal size – not too big to be impersonal and alienating and not too small to be intrusive.

8. There are no initiation ceremonies for “freshers”. These outdated traditions do NOT exist at Shalom College.

11. We have over 80 rooms containing a basin (with hot and cold water) and use of shared but private and separate bathrooms.

· each room has a direct hi-speed cable internet connection and a telephone;

· we have a fully equipped computer laboratory, with PCs, laser printer and a photocopier; and

· we have Foxtel / cable TV on a big screen in the main common room.

14. We have common rooms, library, study areas, TV rooms, games areas, kitchenettes and laundries.

15. The College is a security building. Entry doors can only be accessed by key, CCTV monitors entrances, and security lighting is equipped to the exterior of the building.

16. Our fees are inclusive of all meals and weekly cleaning.

17. We have the ideal location on campus – opposite the Village Green Oval and away from the busy and noisy streets.

18. We have easy access to public transport and are close to major landmarks and tourist attractions in Sydney, eg, the college is 3 kms to Coogee Beach; 6 kms to the city centre; 7 kms to Bondi Beach, Circular Quay and the Opera House. [1 km = 0.62 miles.]

19. We have a ratio of 1 academic tutor-in-residence to 20 students. Tutors provide support to residents, academic assistance and organise college outings.

20. The college residents elect a Resident Society (RESSOC) which represents and serves all students.

21. We offer many extra-curricular activities. The RESSOC executive and tutors arrange sporting, cultural, social and community-building activities.

22. Living at Shalom College is cheaper than or equivalent to living off campus – yet there are so many benefits other than the cost^.* Besides all the advantages listed above, our residents do not have to shop, cook and clean for themselves – and neither do they have to commute to and from campus.
