 Tutors:
Shalom College has six academic tutors most of whom are PhD or graduate students. They offer an array of academic support through formal tutorials or one-on-one tutoring. The tutors also offer an array of extra-curricular programs for residents.
Besides direct help with subjects, tutors also assist in related areas, for example:
- Study skills
- Time management
- Examination techniques
- Essay writing skills
- Writing laboratory reports
- Tutorial presentations
- English language (for foreign students)
 Pastoral Care / Counselling
Tutors are not expected to offer professional counselling to students. They are, however, good listeners and offer guidance or pastoral care where necessary. They play an important role in helping residents to integrate successfully into College life and overcome the daunting feeling of being new to university, or an international student being a long way from home for the first time.
Extra-Curricular Programs / Activities
The College is committed to creating opportunities for residents to be able to develop and grow socially, interpersonally, morally, culturally, intellectually and physically. It provides activities to assist in both personal/self development and in helping to build a sense of community within College.
Tutors offer extra-curricular activities/programs each session that will contribute to these goals. These may include:
- Outings for eveing meals in and around Sydney
- Excursions to sporting or cultural events;
- Group trips to attractions in Sydney and New South Wales
- A time/stress management program;
- A lecture/speaker series;
- A first aid course; etc.
